Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's NGO Being Human has been blacklisted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

BMC has taken this step as Being Human Foundation did not set up a concessional dialysis unit in Bandra for over a year after being allotted the project. For this, BMC has sent a show-cause notice to the company. According to reports, the foundation promised cheaper treatment for the poor people but NGO didn't employ these units. In December 2016, the BMC decided to start 12 dialysis centers, housing 199 dialysis machines which could perform up to 10,000 procedures a month, in the city on public-private partnership (PPP) model to improve the health sector.

According to the proposed model, the duty of BMC was to provide the space for the facility while the NGO was to look after the appointment of staff and the maintenance of the center. As per a MumbaiMirror report, BMC proposed a rate of Rs. 350 for dialysis services at these centers and for the same, Being Human was selected to operate one of the dialysis centers in the city. With a proposed rate of providing dialysis services at Rs. 339.50, the NGO was supposed to set up 24 dialysis machines in Bandra. The machines were to be set up at Allied Cooperative Society on St. John's Road, Pali Hill.

Being Human failed to keep up with its commitment and a show-cause notice of blacklisting the NGO was sent. Salman Khan was also granted all the permissions which included bank guarantee for setting up the dialysis center but the project didn't take off.

Being Human foundation representatives, however, have a different story to tell. According to them, there were few mandatory requirements that the civic body failed to fulfill as they wanted these requirements to be included in the contract they signed with the BMC. Also, no official contract was signed between them and the civic body.
