Remembering Tragedy Queen Meena Kumari On Her 85th Birth Anniversary

Bollywood icon Meena Kumari, immortalised as the 'Tragedy Queen' died at the relatively young age of 38 years, but her acting, singing and poetic talents have made her unforgettable. On her 85th birth anniversary on Wednesday, Google paid tribute to her with a doodle, and her fans shared wishes on Twitter.

Meena Kumari is considered to be a 'historically incomparable' actress of Hindi cinema, and has acted in more than 90 films in a career spanning 33 years, including hit films Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Pakeezah, Mere Apne, Aarti, Baiju Bawra, Parineeta, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, Foot Path, Dil Ek Mandir and Kaajal.

The talented Meena Kumari has won 4 Filmfare Awards in the Best Actress category, including the inaugural Filmfare Awards (1954) Best Actress Award for Baiju Bawra. She made history at the 10th Filmfare awards in 1963 by receiving all of the nominations for Best Actress.

Famous yesteryear actress Madhubala was also a fan of Meena Kumari and described her as having "the most unique voice. No other heroine has it."

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has also praised Meena Kumari, " No one, not any one, ever spoke dialogues the way Meena Kumari did .. no one .. not anyone to date.. and perhaps never will".
