Zoya Akhtar’s fourth film has turned out to be her highest grosser. The movie has already crossed Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office and is now all set to go past Rs 125 crore mark on Wednesday.

The movie opened big, giving Alia Bhatt her highest opener and Ranveer Singh his third highest opening day ever and remained strong at the box office over its week one. However, the movie slowed down in its second week due to the onslaught of the Ajay Devgn starrer Total Dhamaal.

Trade analysts had previously said that Gully Boy's revenue generation has slowed down and its lifetime business will depend on how it fares after the release of Sonchiriya and Luka Chuppi.

Looking at the popularity of Gully Boy in the international arena, it is likely the film could be among top-10 Hindi films in the US and Canada, but top-12 is certainly possible, said Box Office India. Moreover, the performance of Gully Boy at the overseas market is likely to supersede the Indian market.

Despite having a niche appeal, the film has done great business at the ticket windows due to the humongous stardom of its lead stars among the masses. Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting the film to end its theatrical run around Rs 135 crore at the ticket windows, thus making it a huge hit.

Gully Boy's plot is based on the story of Murad, played by Ranveer Singh, who is a budding street rapper from the slums of Mumbai and how he earns a big name in the hip-hop industry. Murad loves Safeena, played by Alia Bhatt, who is also a medical student.
