Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav known for his impeccable comic timing and playing some popular character roles in Bollywood films was sentenced to six months in jail by Karkardooma Court in a cheque bounce case on Monday.

Soon after being sentenced, the actor was granted bail. However, he is required to pay a fine of Rs 1.60 crore in a total of seven cases each which had been filed against him, taking the total payable amount to Rs 11.2 crore.

Rajpal will appeal in higher court against the sentence. He said, "I respect the court's judgement. I will appeal to the higher court." The actor along his wife Radha Yadav was convicted in the recovery suit filed against them by Karkardooma court last Saturday.

The married duo and a company failed to pay back a loan of Rs 5 crore they took from a Delhi-based businessman MG Agarwal for Yadav's directorial debut 'Ata Pata Lapta' in 2010. The film was released in 2012 but the actor failed to repay the loan.

Earlier in 2013, Rajpal Yadav has spent 10 days in judicial custody for concealing important facts about the case and submitting a false affidavit. Rajpal Yadav had claimed in 2015 that he had returned Rs 1.58 crore and would pay back the remaining amount in a month's time.

As Yadav failed to keep his promise, the money lender dragged him to court once again and is currently awaiting a justified decision by the judicial authorities. Rajpal Yadav is known for his performances in films like Company, Maalamaal Weekly, Bhoolbhulaiya and Hungama.
