Once known as the comedy king of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar seems to have ventured into a completely different territory. The 50-year-old actor who is among one the most expensive actors of Bollywood is giving away most of his comedy film franchises for exploring the serious cinema.

While Akshay is busy working on the films like '2.0', 'Padman', 'Gold', 'Kesari' and 'Mogul', the sequels of his most commercially successful films are slipping away from his fingers. Earlier, John Abraham replaced him in 'Welcome Back' while recently Arjun Kapoor was signed for the sequel of Vipul Shah's 'Namaste London'.

Reportedly, the makers 'Singh is Kinng' have also finalised another actor to replace Akshay in the sequel. While talking to a leading daily, the film's producer Shailendra Singh told about the struggle he went through to acquire the rights to 2008's comedy's title, which the team later decided to change to 'Sher Singh'.

He said, "While we had initially wanted the title Singh Is Kinng, Vipul Shah refused to part with it. I have been asking him to return it to me for the last five years. Then, I decided to pick another name, because, the name Singh Is Bling had also been explored. So, a similar sounding title would cause confusion."

Even though the filmmaker didn't reveal the actor who will play Akshay's role in the film, he gave out a hint stating that the witty actor Ranveer Singh could possibly be seen in the never-seen-before avatar while sporting a turban in his next. With his determination, Ranveer has portrayed many tough characters on-screen.

Shailendra said, "Ranveer has all the characteristics needed to play a Sardar, just like Akshay and Ajay Devgn do. I narrated the story to him in one line about a month-and-a-half ago and discussed his look too. He expressed interest in the project and asked me for a 10-page script, which I will send him this week."

Ever since the news regarding Ranveer's potential role in the film has come out, his fans are jumping with joy. The actor is currently awaiting the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus 'Padmavati' which will hit the theatres on December 1. Singh will be seen playing the menacing ruler Allaudin Khilji in the film.
