After Sacred Games, Netflix's Next Indian Original Series 'Bard of Blood' To Star Emraan Hashmi

Netflix continues to expand its presence in India as it announced a brand new original series 'Bard of Blood' on Friday, starring Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi. The Bard of Blood original series is based on Bilal Siddiqi's novel of the same name, published in 2015.

The 8-part series is about a former spy Kabir Ahmed “who is recalled from his new life as a Shakespeare professor in Panchgani to save his country and long-lost love.”

In a promotional video shared by Netflix, Emraan can be seen saying "God has given you one face and you make yourselves another.”

Bard of Blood is being co-produced by Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and will be shot in Hindi, Urdu, English and other languages. The remaining cast and release date are yet to be revealed.

The book on which the series is based was reportedly written with the assistance of US and Indian intelligence agents, war correspondents and crime veteran S. Hussain Zaidi. Set in India, Kabir is a former RAW agent who is called back into the force after the murder of his former senior.

The previous original series launched by Netflix, the acclaimed 'Sacred  Games' starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui was also based on a novel of the same name written by Vikram Chandra. While Sacred Games was received with critical and commercial success upon its release on July 6, it landed in controversy over its depiction of Congress leaders.
