The highly talented and versatile Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a cryptic tweet hinted that preference for fairness isn't exclusive for actresses, but actors also face difficulty if they are 'dark and not good looking' even if they are capable.

Although in recent times, dusky actors and actresses are more frequently seen on the big screen, it can't be denied that the concept of 'fair and lovely' or 'fair and handsome' hasn't impacted film industry.

"Thank you for making me realise that I cannot be paired along with the fair and handsome because I'm dark and not good looking, but I never focus on that," Nawaz tweeted on Monday night.

Apart from Nawzuddin's tweet, he did not reveal the incident that prompted him to tweet on the issue nor did he mention if the bitterness was directed towards any particular person or was against the industry as a whole.

Nawaz's recent statement comes in contrast to his previous stand when last year he claimed that there was no bias based on colour in Bollywood and that the industry gave preference to talent over good looks.

A few months back, Bollywood actor Abhay Deol blatantly slammed stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, John Abraham for taking part in ad campaigns that sold fairness creams and related products. In a series of Facebook posts, Deol denounced the preference for fairness as 'demeaning, false and racist'.
