Amid political battle that had surrounded former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh's biopic “The Accidental Prime Minister”, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday praised Manmohan Singh and said that he did not think the former prime minister deserved this title instead he should be called a successful prime minister.
He said that after Narasimha Rao, it is Manmohan Singh who was a successful prime minister. He added that Singh was the prime minister of India for 10 years, which is a long time, and people should respect him rather than calling him an 'accidental' prime minister.
Raut told media, “If a prime minister governs the country for 10 years and the people respect him, I don’t see him as an accidental prime minister. After Narasimha Rao, if the country has got a successful prime minister, it is Manmohan Singh.”
Shiv Sena is a coalition partner of BJP in Maharashtra but both the parties have displayed disagreements on various issues over time.
The film had invited a lot of criticism on the political front after the BJP shared its trailer on their official twitter account calling the movie a "riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 years."
Especially from the Congress party, who claimed that the biopic poked holes in the portrayal of the former prime minister.
The party also criticised the teaser saying the movie showed Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi in the wrong light.
A plea had been moved before the Delhi High Court against the movie 'The Accidental Prime Minister', demanding a ban on the trailer. The plea stated that facts have been twisted to malign the image of the former PM Manmohan Singh.
The Anupam Kher starrer “The Accidental Prime Minister” is slated to release on January 11.
