Kesari First Looks: A Turbaned Akshay Kumar Leads A Fierce Regiment To The Battle of Saragarhi

First announced in October 2017 as an Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar production, the first looks of the film Kesari, starring Akshay himself and based on the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi, were released on Wednesday.

Having played a Sikh character in his film 'Singh is Kinng' and 'Singh is Bliing', Akshay is not new to the turban, however, his role in Kesari is serious and intense. In both of the looks, Akshay can be seen leading a fierce Sikh regiment with massive turbans. But only Akshay sports a 'kesari' coloured turban. The release date of the film has also been confirmed through the posters, as March 21, 2019.

The film Kesari is based on the Battle of Saragarhi which was fought between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen in September 1897. The British Indian army had only 21 Sikh who were fighting over 10,000 Afghans. Under the leadership of Havildar Ishar Singh, the Sikh Regiment held their ground and fought for several hours knowing that they were outnumbered.

Akshay plays the role of Havildar Ishar Singh, and Parineeti Chopra plays the role of his daughter Eesha.

'Kesari' is helmed by Anurag Singh who has previously worked in Punjabi movies like 'Punjab 1984', 'Jatt and Juliet' Series, 'Yaar Annmulle' and Hindi film, 'Raqeeb'.

Ajay Devgn is also reportedly in collaboration with Rajkumar Santoshi is planning a film on the same subject with the rumoured title 'Sons of Sardaar'.
