Karan Johar And Akshay Kumar To Bring The Battle Of Saragarhi To Screen With 'Kesari'

Bollywood director Karan Johar has a way to excite his fans with each of his projects. Call it his larger-than-life portrayal of life aspects or the celebrities he cast in his films, expectations from each of his projects is sky-high for his fans.

The filmmaker has once again decided to surprise his fans with the announcement of his upcoming project with none other than Khiladi Kumar. Speculations were making rounds for quite long that the two legends are planning a film based on the Battle of Saragarhi.

Finally, after a long wait, both Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar have officially announced the film called 'Kesari' on their individual Twitter handles which is slated to hit the theatres during Holi 2019. An image was shared by both the celebrities revealing the important details of the film.

'Kesari' will be helmed by Anurag Singh who has previously worked in Punjabi movies like 'Punjab 1984', 'Jatt and Juliet' Series, 'Yaar Annmulle' and Hindi film, 'Raqeeb'.

The film will be co-produced by Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar. Earlier, Salman Khan was supposed to co-produce the film but walked out before the project started. Apparently, Salman's good friends, Ajay Devgn in collaboration with Rajkumar Santoshi is planning a film on the same subject with the rumoured title 'Sons of Sardaar'.

The Battle of Saragarhi was fought between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen on 12 September 1897. The British Indian army had only 21 Sikh who was fighting over 10,000 Afghans. Though, they chose to fight to the death. Sikhs still celebrate this day as Saragarhi day.
