The reports of Irrfan Khan's ill health had spread a wave of grief and worry among his loyal fans and well-wishers. After being diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour, the powerhouse actor was seeking treatment in Europe since past three months.

Ever since the actor announced about his suffering to the world, his admirers were anxious for updates in any development related to his health. 'October' filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, however, has assured that the 'Blackmail' actor is responding well to treatment.

Talking to Mumbai Mirror, he revealed, "I’ve been speaking to both Irrfan and his wife (Sutapa Sikdar), he’s responding well to the treatment and trying to cope with the knowledge that he’s battling neuroendocrine tumour by treating the recuperation in Europe like a short and unexpected holiday."

The Ace director also expressed hopes to start filming his upcoming project, a biopic on freedom fighter Udham Singh starring Irrfan Khan by year-end.  "I’m planning to visit him next month. We hope to roll by the year-end (the Udham Singh biopic), but will wait till Irrfan is ready to shoot," he revealed.

The director indirectly turned down all the speculations about replacing Irrfan with Ranbir Kapoor in the 'Udham Singh' biopic due to the former's poor health. Udham Singh had assassinated Michael O'Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in British India in 1940 to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

The freedom fighter's biopic would be Shoojit Sircar and Irrfan's second project together, they have earlier worked together in 'Piku'. The actor also has Vishal Bhardwaj's yet-untitled film co-starring Deepika Padukone in the pipeline, which was postponed until he recuperated.
