hrishikesh mukherjee-700x525 Born in a simple Bengali family in Kolkata, Hrishikesh Mukherjee is known as the pioneer of the ‘middle cinema’ of India. Popularly known as Hrishi da, Mukherjee directed around 42 films in his career spanning over four decades. His films mainly reflected the changing middle-class ethos and he carved a middle path between the extravagance of mainstream cinema and the stark realism of art cinema" Hrishi da was also honoured with numerous prestigious awards including Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Padma Vibhushan, NTR National Award along three National and eight Filmfare Awards. Hrishikesh Mukherjee was suffering from chronic renal failure and breathed his last on August 27, 2006. On his 93rd birth anniversary, here’s a look at some his most popular films.
