HBO finally revealed the release date for the final season of its hit television show, Game of Thrones on November 13.

The eight and the final season of the popular fantasy drama will premiere in April, almost two years after season seven.

The makers posted a video announcing the release of the show on their official Twitter. The video teases, “Every battle. Every betrayal. Every risk. Every fight. Every sacrifice. Every death. All #ForTheThrone.”

The video is a compilation of all the pivotal moments from the previous seven seasons of the show.

The eighth and final season differs from prior ones in a manner that it will only have six episodes rather than the usual ten (Season 7 had seven episodes), although they will reportedly be super-sized - some as long as feature films.

The makers are keeping the fans hooked by realising character gifs.

So far we had seen leaked images from the sets of the eighth season of the series.

Shooting for the season recently wrapped, with several cast members posting emotional farewell messages on social media, including Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the show.

The Emmy-winning medieval fantasy series is HBO's biggest hit ever with some 30 million viewers in the United States and an army of devoted fans worldwide.

The epic fantasy series first premiered in 2011 and its eighth season will mark the show's crowning touch.
