Rani Mukerji’s Father, Filmmaker Ram Mukerji Takes His Last Breath

Influential filmmaker of yesteryear and father of the popular Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, Ram Mukerji has sadly passed away at 4 AM on Sunday at the age of 84. Known for his great contribution to Hindi and Bengali cinema, the screenwriter took his last breath at his residence in Mumbai. Although the exact cause of death has not been revealed, he reportedly had not been feeling well for some time.

Ram launched Rani in the Bengali film 'Biyer Phool' in 1996 and went on to direct and produce her first Hindi film, 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat' in 1997. The veteran producer is one of the founders of the popular Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai and is survived by his children - Rani and Raja Mukerji along with his wife Krishna Mukerji.

Late Mukerji has directed many great films including 'Raktanadir Dhara', 'Tomar Rakte Amar Sohag' and 'Ek Bar Mooskura Do'. 'Hum Hindustani' and 'Leader' are two of his most memorable works. Reportedly, his cremation was supposed to take place at 2 PM at Vile Parle Pawan Hans after his dead body is brought back to his residence Janki Kutir.

While Rani is married to renowned filmmaker Aditya Chopra and recently gave birth to her first child, Adira Chopra, Raja has tried his hand in direction and is currently working as a screenwriter.
