This year, the Cannes Film Festival opens with "Standing Tall" a film about a young boy struggling in the juvenile justice system in France. It is directed by French female film maker Emmanuelle Bercot, and this marks the first time in nearly 30 years that Cannes opened with a film by a female director.
Kaif agreed that this is an exciting time for female directors who are getting the attention they deserve, and praised them for giving her some of her best work yet:
"There's a different tone, and a different sensitivity, and a different language almost, which a woman can bring to a film. It's been some of my best experiences. I'm working with another female director this year. I think it's all about women directors right now," said Kaif.
