Bollywood actor Anupam Kher resigned as Film and Television Institute of India chairman on Wednesday.

The actor took to his Twitter account to share the news. Anupam cited that the reason for his withdrawal as an FTII chief was his commitment to international assignments for which he will have to be stationed in the US. He said "nearly nine months between 2018 and 2019 and then for a similar period for a minimum of three years more". As a result of that, he will not be able to devote his time to the Institution.

Sharing the resignation letter he mentioned, "Given this assignment it would not be fair to me, the students and management team, for me to hold a position of such responsibility and accountability, without being actively involved in the operations."

The Bollywood actor also took to his Twitter account to thank the staff and students of the institution.

He addressed the resignation letter to Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

According to the media reports, his resignation letter has been accepted by Rathore, who thanked Kher for his services to the premier institute.

Earlier, Anupam had worked in American show such as medical drama Bellevue.
