Acclaimed Filmmaker And Wife Of Late Bhupen Hazarika, Kalpana Lajmi Passes Away At Age 64

Director Kalpana Lajmi, who gave Bollywood it's best movies such as Rudali, Daman and Darmiyan, is not among us anymore. She passed away at 4.30 am on Sunday morning at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai at age 64.

Kalpana Lajmi was painter Lalita Lajmi and famous director Guru Dutt's niece. Kalpana was battling with chronic kidney disease and liver failure. 

Her brother Dev Lajmi informed PTI, "She passed away at the (Kokilaben Dhirubhai) Ambani hospital at 4.30 am. She was suffering from a chronic kidney disease and liver failure. She was on dialysis. She has been in and out of the hospital for three years. The last rites will be possibly conducted today."

Kalpana used to have dialysis four times a week. Her dialysis expenses were raised by big celebrities of Bollywood, including Aamir Khan to Salman Khan. 

On the death of Kalpana Lajmi, many Bollywood stars expressed grief on their social media.

Kalpana was honoured with the National Award for the film 'Rudali'. Actress Raveena Tandon got the National Award for Best Actress for Kalpana Lajmi's film Daman in 2001.  

Lajmi's last film was Chingari in 2006 which was based on "The Prostitute and the Postman" by Bhupen Hazarika, Lajmi's Husband. Mithun Chakraborty and Sushmita Sen were the leads in this film.
