The upcoming Bollywood movie Soorma starring Diljit Dosanjh and Tapsee Pannu directed by Shaad Ali, a biopic based on a hockey player Sandeep Singh, was earlier scheduled to release on July 6 but now will be releasing on July 13. The new release date of Soorma was revealed on Friday, but the new release date puts the Soorma at risk of clashing with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Fanne Khan.

Fanne Khan, starring Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao was scheduled initially to release during Eid, but the release date was adjusted to July 13 to avoid a clash with Salman Khan starrer Race 3.

According to sources, Soorma was scheduled to release on June 29 but due to the release of Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor also releasing on the same date, Soorma was delayed. The producers of Soorma pushed the dates giving a two-week gap for Sanju and shifted their own release date to July 13.

Soorma tells the story of the international hockey player Sandeep Singh, played by Diljit Dosanjh, who was paralyzed and used a wheelchair for two years after an accidental gunshot injured him in 2006. Despite the paralysis, Sandeep made a comeback to international hockey in 2008 and led team India to victory in the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

Diljit Dosanjh and SPN productions also tweeted the release date of soorma.

In one of Diljit's interviews, he said that he has lent his voice to one of the lyrics of legendary Gulzar for a romantic melody in Soorma. He also added that not a lot of people know that the player Sandeep Singh also has a romantic side.
