Veteran Actor Anupam Kher Appointed As New FTII Chairman

Replacing Gajendra Chauhan as chairman, veteran actor Anupam Kher will now hold the reins of the autonomous Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) that works under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B).

The actor was appointed as the chairman of the Institute on Wednesday.

Kher has long been speculated to be appointed as the next chairman given his recent bidding for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and supporting their ideology. He is also one of the most respected and talented actor in the entire industry.

Kher had earlier said, “I personally feel that FTII represents a certain art form… it does certainly need a person having a great body of work which means he is supposed to know world cinema, he is supposed to know the present state of cinema like editing. But certainly, FTII needs somebody who is much more qualified than whatever Ganjendra ji’s qualifications are coming across.”

Kher had also criticised the appointment Gajendra Chauhan, who is best known for his role as Yudhisthira in the epic TV Mahabharata, as chairman of the film industry watchdog.

The 62-year-old Bollywood star has also been honoured with Padma Shri in 2004 and Padma Bhushan in 2016. He is known for so many good roles that cannot even be named in this story.

Also, he is not only limited to Bollywood, the actor also frequently performs in theatres and plays. He has also worked in many international movies and TV shows, most notable being his role in popular series Sense8.
