Based on Sanjaya Baru's book on the life of former Indian  Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Vijay Ratnakar Gutte has decided to direct a political drama with Anupam Kher in the lead role. Makers have been working intensely for casting the right actors to play right characters.

Seems like we have the perfect faces to represent the book's author, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The Economic Times report suggests Akshaye Khanna has been roped in to play Sanjaya Baru's character in the movie adaption of his book and his first look at the drama has already been released.

Calling the film a "game changer", the actor is "thrilled and excited" to be a part of this venture. Privileged for being a part of the "outstanding" film, Akshaye expressed, "Even if my role was insignificant I would have still done it," and along described the film's screenplay as "divine".

Another name finalised to play the character of 'Desh ki bahu' Sonia Gandhi is German actress Suzanne Bernert. Notably, the actress has earlier also portrayed the former Congress President in a television series titled 'Pradhanmantri', hosted by Shekhar Kapur.

Keen to be a part of such extravagant film, Bernert recorded an audition herself before sending the footage to the makers through Bombaycasting.com. Her stark resemblance to Sonia Gandhi and determination to play the role caught producer Sunil Bohra and director's instant attention.

Bohra confirmed the news to Economic Times stating, "Not only does she look the part, but her dialogue delivery is identical to Sonia Gandhi’s. Her audition was truly persuasive." The makers have earlier finalised an Italian actress to play Rahul Gandhi's mother on screen.

While Priyanka Gandhi's representative in the film is yet to be finalised, UK born Indian actor Arjun Mathur will reportedly play the role of Rahul Gandhi. 'The Accidental Prime Minister' is slated for release only a few months before 2019 general elections on December 21, 2018.
