Apart from his influential films and power-packed roles, Khiladi Kumar is greatly recognised for his respect for army personnel. His humble gestures often win many hearts and his latest act of kindness proves just why.

While the entire nation was celebrating the festival of lights with their families and loved ones, Akshay Kumar was busy in bringing happiness to the families of 103 slain policemen and army personnel in Maharashtra.

Contributing to the "sweet" initiative taken by a senior IPS officer, Akshay Kumar sent over Rs 25 lakh for the family of martyrs along with a special letter of each of them. When Vishwas Nangare Patil supplied with the idea of delivering sweets to every martyrs' family on Diwali, Akshay couldn't stop himself from contributing towards the cause.

The Kolhapur range IGP told a leading news agency, "Akshay Kumar sent a cheque of Rs 25,000 and a signed letter to each of the families which we delivered."

Akshay's note read, "We all are proud of your family member for his Sacrifice to the nation. I know, you are missing your loved ones on this Diwali Festival. But I request you to start the new year with courage. Sending a small gift of sweets and books for children. Please accept with love."

A list of 103 martyrs was prepared by the police officials, whose families were covered under the social initiative. Officer Vishwas has started this initiative last year and expressed his delight due to its success. He said, "We are happy that our initiative has made the Diwali of the martyrs' families sweeter."

Talking about Akshay's involvement in the initiative, he said, "Akshay recently sent me a photograph of a small girl weeping beside the coffin of her father. When I broached the subject of helping the slain policemen's families, the actor promptly decided to chip in."

Kumar keeps lending his support for such causes. Last year, after the horror of Uri terror attacks broke out, he donated Rs 5 lakh to the family of each martyr. Akshay is currently busy with films like '2.0', 'Padman', 'Gold', 'Kesari' and 'Mogul'.
