The wait is over for the most awaited movie of Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar Mohalla Assi by the filmmaker Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, which will finally be released on November 16 this year, it was confirmed on Friday.

The film finally cleared with 'A' certificate after a long legal battle with Central Board of  Film Certification (CBFC) which caused the delay in the release of the film for past two years.

The announcement was made with a motion poster released on social media on Friday.

Earlier, the movie was surrounded with many controversies, a drawback for the makers began when the application for certification of the film was submitted to CBFC in March 2016.

The Revising Committee of the board, however, refused to issue a certificate for an exhibition of the film stating that the form and content of the film were highly offensive of human, culture and religion, including but not limited to mythology and was laden with abusive, explicit content.

Producer Vinay Tiwari appealed to the Film Certification Tribunal (FCAT) on November 2016, directed the producer to carry out 10 cuts in the film and re-submit the film for its opinion. Thirteen months of appearing in court and 11 hearings later, they reserved a certificate.

Finally, the movie is all set for to release on November 16. Mohalla Assi is based on Kashi Nath Singh’s book Kashi Ka Assi that dissects the politically-charged events of 1990 and 1998, including the Ram Janmabhoomi issue and the implementation of the Mandal Commission. The cast includes Ravi Kishan, Saurabh Shukla, Mukesh Tiwari and Rajendra Gupta many others.
