The biopic on Kalpana Chawla has been stalled as Kalpana's husband Jean Pierre Harrison has refused to grant the rights of her life story to the makers. As per the reports, Priyanka Chopra was signed to step into the shoes of first ever Indian woman to go into space.

Kalpana Chawla’s biopic was supposed to be directed by Priya Mishra whereas Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures took over the production. Kalpana's father Banarasi Lal Chawla has already given a nod to the biopic.

The director even met Chawla's father several times in Karnal before he signed the deal with her. The actress Priyanka Chopra had a keen interest in doing Kalpana's biopic but as per the sources, the movie isn't likely to begin shooting or materialise without the permission of  Harrison.

After Kalpana's demise, Harrison is associated with all the rights and no one else can give the permission to make the film. Harrison has written ‘The Edge of Time: The Authoritative Biography of Kalpana Chawla and presented to our PM Modi earlier.

This biopic would have witnessed the life experiences and missions of  Kalpana Chawla, who was the first Indian astronaut to fly in space. During her mission, she died in a space shuttle Columbia disaster along with the six crew members.
