U19 World Cup: BCCI To Reward Proud Coach Rahul Dravid With Rs 50 lakh

Men in Blue won the coveted title of U19 World Cup for the fourth time and their senior coach Rahul Dravid can't be more proud. After missing town chances at winning the World Cup as Indian captain, the legend finally achieved his well-deserved victory at Bay Oval at Bay Oval on Saturday.

In order to appreciate his unmissable efforts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the cash reward of Rs 50 lakh for the U19 coach whereas the triumphant players will receive the cash prize Rs 30 lakh each and the fielding coach Abhya Sharma and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will get Rs 20 lakh.

While in most cases, players are paid more than the coach, the policy decision of paying Dravid larger share as "the stature of the coach matters a lot," admitted a senior BCCI official. Post India won the final match against Australia by 8 wickets, Rahul was extremely emotional and proud.

The batting legend said, "I am really proud of the boys, proud of the effort that they have put in and proud of the support staff as well. I think the effort we have put in over the last 14 months has been sensational. They really deserved this, couldn’t be really happier and proud for this bunch of boys."

Ever since taking over the reigns as U19 coach in 2015, Rahul Dravid has dedicated his time and attention to training the boys. Despite being under the spotlight on various occasions, the head coach never transferred the tension to his young students.

Praising the efforts by support staff members, Rahul stated, "Coaching this team, I tend to get a lot of attention, but it is really about the quality of support staff that we have had, there have been seven or eight of us, who have been together for the last 14 months. The effort they put in was incredible."

The U19 team has earlier lost the previous edition to West Indies in 2016. Praises and wishes for Rahul Dravid and the talented bunch of cricketers have started pouring in from all around the world. Legendary players like Virender Sehwag, Shahid Afridi are among the many appreciators of the team.
