Former Pakistan's bowling star Shoaib Akhtar has taken up a new role as the adviser to the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on cricket affairs. The celebrated cricketer was appointed as the brand ambassador, confirmed board's chairman Najam Sethi on Friday night.

The cricketer also took the announcement to social media and promised of taking Pakistan cricket to another level with his hard work and dedication. He further expressed being honoured to be chosen for the positions and thanked the board for giving him such privilege.

Notably, Shoaib, who has taken 444 wickets in the three formats collectively has earlier expressed his disapproval towards Najam Sethi. In 2013, the cricketer publically admitted that Pakistan cricket had deteriorated under Sethi's chairmanship.

In 2015 also, Akhtar blamed Sethi for Pakistan's heavy defeat to West Indies in the World Cup and targeted the entire PCB management. During his 14-year cricket career, the player kept having disputes with the board.

The 42-year-old holds a historical record of delivering the fastest ball at the speed of 100.2 mph. Known as the Rawalpindi Express, Akhtar represented Pakistan from 1997 to 2011 in 46 Test matches, 163 one-day internationals and 15 Twenty20 Internationals.
