Mithali Raj, who led the Indian women's cricket team to the World Cup finals showcased an average performance throughout the three-match ODI series against South Africa which the visitors won by 2-1 has lost her number one position in ICC Women’s batting ranking.

Slipping to number 3 position, the skipper was replaced by Australian player Ellyse Perry who is already the top-ranked all-rounder. The Aussie climbed up the ladder post her impressing performance in the women's Ashes by scoring an unbeaten 213 against England in Tests and 110 runs in 3 ODI matches.

Thanks to her ODI average of 36.66, Perry was awarded the Belinda Clark award for Australia’s women’s cricketer of the year earlier this week. Aussie skipper Meg Lanning also climbed up the rankings and snatched no. 2 position from the veteran player's reach leaving Raj at No.3 spot.

Mithali barely scored 45, 20 and 4 against South Africa in the One Day Internationals but gained back some momentum in the T20s by scoring unbeaten 54 and 76 to register victories in first two matches of the series. Celebrated Indian batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur also dropped two spots to the seventh position.

However, Smriti Mandhana's century in 2nd ODI against South Africa has helped her in moving up by 14 places to reach 21st rank. On bowler's front, India's star pacer Jhulan Goswami was beaten by Proteas bowler Marizanne Kapp for number one position in ICC ranking.

Interesting, Australia Women team will tour India in March and the series will likely become a platform for the top-ranked player to prove their Mattel. The Indian team will lock horns with South African players on Sunday for 3rd T20 of the 5-match series after winning the first two with ease.
