Kohli Becomes Top ODI Batsman Again, Breaks Tendulkar’s Record

Virat Kohli achieved his 32nd ODI century on Sunday, 29 October. Not only did his achievement help India win against New Zealand with 2-1 but also earned the batsman the top position in ICC Rankings for batsmen in One Day International (ODI) cricket.

With a career-high point of 889, Kohli has managed to beat Sachin Tendulkar who stood at 887 points. The cricketer even broke his own record which was 887 previously.

With Kohli on top, AB De Villiers from South Africa now holds the second position (with 872 points), according to a news agency report. AB De Villiers is followed by Australian vice caption, David Warner who holds 865 points. The latest rankings update is based on a couple of ODI series that have taken place in the recent past. The list includes India’s (home) series against New Zealand – which concluded on Sunday.

This is followed by the latest South Africa vs Bangladesh series and the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka series. All of these matches have concluded in the past three to four months. Coming back to Kohli, he scored a total of 263 runs against New Zealand.

A total of two matches took place between the two teams – out of which, the first one was held in Mumbai. Virat scored a total of 121 runs then. This was followed by the match on Sunday, which took place in Kanpur. This is where he made 113 runs. 

According to reports, India’s (former) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has now been pushed to the eleventh position. New Zealand’s popular batsman, Tom Latham performed pretty well in the series against India. The cricketer, however, has been pushed to the 15th position.

When it comes to bowling, Pakistan leads the list. Pace bowler, Hasan Ali holds the top position in the list of bowlers. Although, India is not too far behind. Newbie Jasprit Bumrah has performed well in the series against New Zealand, wherein he managed to finish with six wickets.

India hasn’t been able to beat South Africa, despite the win against New Zealand. South Africa stands at 121 points in ICC ODI Team Rankings. Meanwhile, India stands at 119 points.
