With Indian Premier League 2018 just around the corner, playing teams have started revealing their strategies to win the prestigious tournament. Kings XI Punjab could be described as the most vibrant franchise of forthcoming IPL for various reason.

Preity Zinta-owned team has now announced their captain for the 2018 edition. India's ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken the position for Kings XI Punjab, confirmed  the team's mentor Virender Sehwag on Monday during a Facebook Live session.

Sehwag has backed Ashwin during the IPL auctions in January and bought him for his team for a whopping amount of 7.6 crore. The player has earlier contributed to Chennai Super Kings' two title win and was seen playing for Pune Supergiants in the last season.

Despite being out of India's playing XI currently, Sehwag has full faith in Ashwin and his understanding of shortest cricket format. "I am sure Ashwin will also do wonders for Kings XI Punjab this year. Hopefully, we will qualify for the playoffs and reach the final also," Sehwag said.

Ashwin, on the other hand, expressed, "I feel honoured to be trusted with the responsibility of leading such a talented bunch of cricketers. I am confident of bringing out the best out of team mates. This is indeed a proud moment for me."

Talking about the additional pressure, Ashwin said, "There is no additional pressure on me as such. I first led my state side in first class cricket when I was 21. I have done it in the past and I am sure that I will enjoy the challenge."

No indicators of Ashwin's latest form could be seen as he played his last T20 for India seven months back against West Indies. The cricketer will be leading the likes Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle. Kings XI Punjab also retained only India all-rounder Axar Patel for Rs 12.5 crore for upcoming season of IPL.
