New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has taken over the reigns of the captaincy of SunrRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2018, as announced by the franchise on Thursday. He will be occupying the space left by David Warner.

SRH's CEO, K. Shanmugam took the social media to break the news about this change.

"I've accepted the role to stand in as captain for this season. It's an exciting opportunity with a talented group of players. I look forward to challenges ahead," said Williamson.

Warner on Wednesday stepped down as captain as announced by the IPL franchise. BCCI seconded Cricket Australia’s notion of banning the player for 12-months from cricket.

An IPL team captain is someone who represents the team and the brand. Williamson ticks off these two boxes easily and previously has had experience of leading his country for some time now.

SunRisers Hyderabad in their official statement on Wednesday insisted that they will be making an announcement on this matter soon. Their first match is ironically against Rajasthan Royals, a team that was led by Steve Smith who also has suffered a similar fate as David Warner.
