Nidahas Trophy: India Look To Avenge Loss Against Hosts Sri Lanka

Resurgent India will be looking to vindicate their bowling mistakes, as they take on hosts Sri Lanka on Monday. The tri-series is tied with everyone winning one game.

The Rohit Sharma led team bounced back from a disappointing showing against Sri Lanka with a comprehensive win against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka were derailed from their tracks by an inspired Bangladeshi side who chased down a mammoth total of 214 runs, evidently still hurt from defeat to India.

India’s biggest concern though would be the form of their skipper. Rohit’s enviable limited-overs’ record against Sri Lanka counted for nothing in the series-opener as he was sent back for a duck. Against Bangladesh, he showed signs of returning to form with a fluent start but had just 17 runs to show for his efforts. He has had a forgettable tour of South Africa, and it’s not often that he endures such long lean patches.

With two of India’s top three having got out cheaply in both matches, it would be interesting to see if India tweak their batting order once again. They sent in southpaw Rishabh Pant in the last match at the fall of the first wicket but the youngster was unable to capitalise on the opportunity.

In the other camp, Sri Lanka will depend on Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis to score briskly at the top of the batting order, especially with captain Dinesh Chandimal banned for two matches with slow over-rate.

In their defeat to Bangladesh, all of the bowlers, barring Nuwan Pradeep, bowled with indiscipline, throwing full-tosses and easy deliveries at important moments and were made to pay for it.

The fourth T20I of Nidahas Trophy between the two teams will be played in Colombo.
