BCCI Awards 2018: Virat Kohli Receives Polly Umrigar Trophy In Wife Anushka Sharma's Presence

Indian skipper Virat Kohli might not be playing at the historic one-off Test match against Afghanistan but his contribution to Indian cricket for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons could never be neglected. BCCI honoured the cricketer with the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award on Tuesday.

Recognising his contribution to domestic and international cricket, the annual BCCI awards presented him the best international cricketer trophy. With an average of 74, Kohli had scored 1,332 runs in 13 games during the 2016-17 season whereas, in 2017-18, he scored 896 runs in 6 Tests.

Along with Virat, his wife Anushka Sharma was reached to attend the event, making the evening more special of the proud Awardee. Receiving the award from his Indian team's coach Ravi Shastri, Kohli thanked the actress among others for being by his side at the special moment.

"My wife's here today so makes it more special. The awards didn't happen last year but I'm glad it didn't because she's here now," Kohli said on the stage. Indian women team's skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was honoured with the Best International Cricketer Award (2016-17).

Cricketer Smriti Mandhana was named the international cricketer of the year 2017-18 in the women's category. Apart from International players, domestic players including Jalaj Saxena, Parvez Rasool, Krunal Pandya were honoured for their stellar performances in the domestic circuit.

Virat Kohli was ruled out of county games for Surrey due to his neck injury. He tied the knot with Anushka Sharma on December 11 last year in a hush-hush ceremony in Tuscany, Italy. Later, they hosted two receptions for their friends and fraternity in Delhi and Mumbai.
