Star Sports India Wins Auction For BCCI’s Digital Media Rights With Rs 6138.1 Crore Bid

After winning the race of bagging the media right for the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL), Star Sports India has also acquired the digital media rights of the Indian cricket team and the domestic championship.

In a first of its kind e-auction, Star India came on top against heavyweights like Sony and Jio after their bid of Rs 6138.1 Cr bagged them the prized broadcasting rights. The bidding process has ensured another huge windfall for the BCCI as the bid is 59.3% more than what Star paid during the 2012-2018 season.

Star India also acquired the rights to host the Indian Premier League for Rs 16,347 crore for the next five years in September 2017. As far as the BCCI is concerned, they will be richer by Rs 60.1 Cr per match more than what they will receive for one IPL match.

Initially, six companies, including Facebook and Google, entered the fray to bid for international and domestic matches in India from April 15, 2018, to March 31, 2023, but following scrutiny Star India, Reliance Jio and Sony TV were found eligible to submit online bids.
