Sony Pictures Generates Rs 200 Crore Revenue From FIFA 2018

Sony Pictures Network India earned Rs. 200 crore revenue from the latest edition of the FIFA World Cup. The total viewership of FIFA World 2018 reached 254 million who watched live matches, wraparound shows, highlights, repeats, surround programming of FIFA World Cup on SPN Sports Network on the terrestrial network and video streaming platform Sony LIV app.

According to the reports, a total of 110.5 million spectators watched the 64 matches of FIFA World Cup that went on air from June 14 on Sony Ten 2, Sony Ten 3 and Sony ESPN channels. The top four markets which contributed to the viewership of FIFA World Cup on Sony include West Bengal (22.2 million), Kerala (17.8 million), Maharashtra/Goa (12.8 million)and North East (11.4 million) that includes 47% of women.

The final encounter that commenced on July 15 was watched by 121.2 million viewers which comprise 51.2 million broadcasters while 70 million on the Sony Liv app.

Sony introduced its regional language feed for the first time which proved to be a successful move for the company. The regional language feed went on to huge spectatorship of around 40.7 million. 

The channel was targeting to earn huge revenue in the latest edition of the world cup. The company sold its advertising spots to marquee Indian and international brands including Hero MotoCorp, Pernod Ricard, Volkswagen, and Amazon India.

Rajesh Kaul Chief Revenue Head, Sony Pictures Entertainment in a statement said, "We are extremely excited by the success of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia with the viewership meeting all our expectations. This definitely reflects the passion the sport is seeing in India."
