Reserve Bank Of India To Launch New Series Of Rs 20 Currency Note Today

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going to release a new Rs 20 currency note with additional features, according to the RBI document.

New look notes are getting launched by the bank since demonetisation in 2016 under Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. These are different in size and design compared to the notes issued previously.

The central bank has already issued new look currency notes in the denominations of Rs 10, Rs 50, Rs 100, and Rs 500, besides introducing Rs 200 and Rs 2,000 bank notes.

The currency notes issued under the older series would be legal as well except the banned 500 and 1000 notes.

The Rs 20 notes accounted for 9.8 per cent of the total number of currency notes in circulation at the end of March 2018 and there were 4.92 billion notes in circulation as on March 31, 2016.

The new mg series had various different features integrated into them like the denominational number is written in Devnagri, micro letters 'RBI', ‘भारत’, ‘INDIA’, denominational number and see-through register number.

It also had angular bleed lines for visually impaired people to identify the notes, raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait and raised identification mark H.

With windowed security thread which changes colour from green to blue when the note is tilted and portrait and electrotype watermark.
