Reliance Jio Inches Towards 200 Million Users, Vodafone Faces Losses: TRAI Data

As per the data released by Telecom Regulatory authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday, Reliance Jio has added 96,31,255 subscribers with an astonishing growth rate of 5.16 percent in the month of April 2018.

During the same period, Idea also has added 55,50,721 users, while Bharti Airtel has added 45,01,020 users and BSNL has added 7,03,240 users.

Some networks marked losses as well; Vodafone has lost 6,64,516 users, MTNL has lost 12,167 subscribers, Telenor has lost 18,29,369 and Tata Teleservices has lost 20, 66, 670 users.

MNP (Mobile Number Portability) could be the reason for this devastating change in one month as during the month of Apr-18, a total of 6.73 million requests were received for MNP. With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 370.83 million at the end of Mar-18 to 377.55 million at the end of Apr-18, since the implementation of MNP.

After attaining immense growth Reliance Jio has 17.44 percent market share while Airtel is still leading with whopping 27.44 percent market share. Vodafone and Idea are also ahead of Jio with 19.74 percent and 19.27 percent market share respectively.

As per Trai monthly data, Telecom Subscribers also declined from 1,206.22 million at the end of Mar-18 to 1,147.71 million at the end of Apr-18, thereby showing a monthly decline rate of 4.85 percent.

The urban subscription declined from 681.61 million at the end of Mar-18 to 643.87 million at the end of Apr-18. The rural subscription declined from 524.61 million to 503.84 million during the same period.
