Last Date To Link Aadhaar And PAN Card Extended To March 31, 2018

As the per the latest rules and regulations, the government has asked the citizens to get their Aadhaar numbers linked with their respective PAN (Permanent Account Number) cards, the deadline for which has now been extended by 3 months.

The authorities on Friday notified about the new deadline of March 31, 2018. The deadline change will facilitate the taxpayers who are yet to complete the linking process. The regulation was made mandatory by the government with effect from July 1, 2017, for filing ITR (income tax return) and obtaining a new PAN.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) which is the apex policy-making body of the Income Tax Department stated, “It has come to notice that some of the taxpayers have not yet completed the linking of PAN with Aadhaar.”

The finance ministry further said, “Therefore, to facilitate the process of linking, it has been decided to further extend the time for linking of Aadhaar with PAN till March 31, 2018.”

The provision of mandatory linking of their biometric ID with PAN was introduced under section 139AA of the Income-tax Act, 1961. Ever since the introduction of the new rule for taxpayers to avail various services and welfare schemes, the deadline has been extended thrice so far.

Earlier, the deadline for linkage was earlier decided on August 31, 2017, which was later extended to December 31, 2017. Aadhaar is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to Indian residents, PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric number allotted by the I-T department to a person, firm or entity.
