India Ranks 109th For Mobile Internet Download Speed In February: Ookla

India has ranked 109th in Mobile Internet Download Speed as of February which has increased from 112th position last year, according to Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index.  However, India’s rank for fixed broadband speed has increased to 67th position from 76th position globally.

Ookla’s updated Speedtest Global Index revealed that in absolute terms, India's performance in mobile internet download speed has gone up from average speeds of 8.80 Mbps in November 2017 to 9.01 Mbps, marking a little bit improvement since last quarter.

However, India has shown a significant improvement in terms of its fixed broadband download speed rank, where it is now placed 67th from 76th last year. Fixed broadband download speeds have gone up from average speeds of 18.82 Mbps in November 2017 to 20.72 Mbps in February 2018.

India had reported much improvement in fixed broadband download speeds in comparison to mobile internet download speed, among the world’s most populous countries as per Ookla’s announcement at the end of 2017.

India’s upload speeds for fixed broadband stood at 16.09 Mbps and for mobile data stood at 3.66 Mbps as of February. For mobile data, the global average upload and download speeds were 9.01 Mbps and 22.16 Mbps respectively.

Norway has the top position, as per the February Speedtest Global Index, with an average download speed of 62.07 Mbps. For fixed broadband, Singapore ranked highest, with a 161.53 Mbps average download. Ookla has 7021 servers globally out of which 439 Speedtest servers are present in India.
