Hyderabad metro is the first metro who has taken the first-of-its-kind initiative to promote electric vehicles (EVs) at the metro stations. L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited has announced its move to provide Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in teaming up with the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

These EV charging stations will be monitored and operated remotely by Power Grid. They are also developing an app through which consumers can locate and share the status of availability of the charging station and can also facilitate online payment towards EV Charging for seamless operation with least waiting time.

The charging ports which will be available in the metro stations will be of the Bharat Charger DC-001 standard and are approved by Government of India.

This initiative to provide Electric Vehicle Charging Stations is undertaken to reduce the Carbon footprint.

KVB Reddy, MD & CEO, LTMRHL said, “We are committed to providing best in class eco-friendly green Metro services to the citizens of Hyderabad and this is a step in that direction. The running cost is also considerably low compared to the vehicles run on fossil fuels. As India is aiming at high renewable energy penetration, channelising this energy to EV, the net CO2 generation can be brought down to almost zero.”

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) announced on Friday that the charging stations will set up first at Miyapur station and Dr BR Ambedkar station at Balanagar and later across all Metro stations in the city.
