air india Denying the reports that Air India is excluding non-vegetarian meals on its domestic flights in economy class from January 1, the public sector airline has said that it is actually adding to its menu. Air India said that it is, in fact going to serve proper hot veg meals in 60-90 minute flights, where presently only cold veg snacks are served. A report in Bangalore Mirror has said that Air India plans to serve only vegetarian hot meals in the economy class on its domestic flights with a flying time of 61 to 90 minutes from New Year. The report quoted a circular as saying, "It has been decided to provide all Indian vegetarian hot meals in economy class on all domestic sector flights between 61 and 90 minutes duration from January 1, 2016." The circular about hot meals in economy class has been signed by Captain DX Pais, general manager (cabin crew) on December 23, said the report. However, Minister Of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma was said that the circular was misinterpreted. He said that non-veg was not in that category of snacks earlier too. The report said that the circular marked as 'Must Read' has been issued from the office of the executive director, customer services, and is marked to all cabin crew and in-flight service personnel. The logic behind serving only hot veg meal is that a flight between 61 and 90 minute duration gives the crew a window of 30 to 40 minutes to serve passengers. "The time available for service does not permit us to offer passengers the option of choosing a meal. Also, while non-vegetarians would eat a hot vegetarian meal, it won't be the other way round," said the report quoting an official. Economy class passengers on flights, which is of less than 60 minutes will not be served hot meals, but only served vegetarian refreshments. Air India has five categories of flights on the domestic sectors - breakfast from 5.30 am to 9.30 am; high tea from 9.30 am to 11.30 am and 3 pm to 6.30 pm; lunch from noon to 2.30 pm; supper from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm; and dinner from 11 pm onwards.
