The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to auction the luxury hotel Taj Mansingh, Delhi on 18th July.

The auction was to be held in this month but was cancelled for lack of bidders. Tata Group's Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) were the sole bidders. IHCL is the existing operator for the Taj Mansingh hotel.

An annulment notice was issued for the e-auction by the civic body last week. The notice reads, "Less than three bids were received for the property and as per norms three, technically qualified bidders are required for the e-auction process to the second stage. Hence, the auction process stands annulled."

Taj Mansingh was given to the Tata group in 1978 on a lease for 33 years, which ended in 2011. the legal tangle between the IHCL and the NDMC resulted in the delay in auction of the famous hotel.

The hotel was open for site visits by bidders between June 16 and 22. The NDMC will conduct a pre-bid meeting tomorrow and the last date for submission of bids is July 9.

The NDMC had last year decided to auction Hotel Connaught and Asian Hotel. Both these hotels were sealed by the corporation in 2015 for non-payment of license fees.
