In order to provide longer battery life to its users, Apple Inc. has banned apps that are using crypto-miners.

The company updated its App Store guidelines, making changes to the hardware compatibility section.

The updated guidelines say "Apps, including any third party advertisements displayed with them, may not run unrelated background processes, such as cryptocurrency mining,"

The move was taken by the tech giant to ensure a prolonged battery life and to ensure the durability of the Mac and iOS devices.

The guidelines further state that apps should not rapidly drain the battery, generate excessive heat, or put unnecessary strain on device resources.

Cryptocurrency mining has emerged as a major threat in the latest technological advancements when hackers discovered it as a great method to mint money by seizing computers to furtively perform cryptocurrency mining ‘out of sight’ without clients' information or knowledge.

However, the Apple guidelines ban only 'on-device' mining, that means those apps that eventually ends up draining device’s battery for processing power to mine cryptocurrency will be barred.

Apple, as of now has no problem with apps that perform the mining process somewhere else other than the device, such as a remote server or a cloud provider.
