Bharti Airtel on Monday joined 'Seamless Alliance' to provide connectivity to customers during flights. The alliance aims to use satellite technology to offer data connectivity to mobile users when they’re on a flight. The formation of the alliance was announced in Barcelona.

From this alliance, the member operators, including Airtel, can continuously provide their customers the same high speed and low latency connectivity from the ground, by air and vice versa, through satellite technology.

It would also significantly reduce costs for everyone involved while creating a smooth, positive user experience.

OneWeb, Airbus, Delta and Sprint are the other founding members of the alliance.

The global alliance aims to attract additional industry players beyond the five founding members which would eliminate the immense costs and obstacles commonly associated with acquisition, installation and management of data access infrastructure by optimizing the integration and system certification.

The collaboration also aims to provide open specifications for inter-operability.

Gopal Vittal, Managing Editor and CEO of Bharti Airtel said, "We are delighted to be a founding member of this innovative technology platform to bring seamless connectivity to customers in the true sense."

He said, "Over 370 million mobile customers across Airtel's global network will be able to enjoy uninterrupted access to high-speed data services even while they are in-flight. We look forward to collaborating with all partner members to ensure this platform goes live at the earliest."
