New 20 Lakh Joins Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna, Total Reaches 32.61 Crore

According to a recently released data by the Finance Ministry of India, as many as 20 Lakh afresh people have joined the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY), media reported on Sunday.

With 20 lakh new account, the total number of account holders in the PMJDY rose to 32.61 crores accounts as on September 5.

Previously, the government has decided to continue the PMJDY beyond the four years with the main aim to take the formal banking system from every household.

According to reports, during the period of August 15 to September 5 in 2018, the total amount of money deposited in the PMJDY was Rs 1,266.43 crore.

While the total amount of money as on September 5 was at Rs 82,490.98 crore. In the Yojna about 53 per cent of the account holders are women with 83 per cent of the total accounts seeded with Aadhaar.

Under the scheme, one can avail numerous benefits that include interest on deposits, accidental insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh, No minimum balance required, life cover of Rs. 30,000 payable on the death of the beneficiary, easy transfer of money across India and more.

The PMJDY was launched in 2014 with an aim to ensure access to financial services, namely, banking services, savings and deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance and pension in their accounts an affordable manner.

Under the PMJDY an Individual can open their account with zero balance.
