Two giant car manufacturers Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Toyota will have a task on their hands at cross-badging, as Baleno is set to become the first cross-badged product of the auto makers.

Maruti Suzuki is likely to supply 25,000 Baleno cars each year to Toyota, media reported on Wednesday.

As per reports in media, Toyota will start selling the Baleno from the first quarter of the next fiscal year under its own dealership network. Baleno will undergo some changes in its exteriors and interiors such as head lamps, tail lamps and front grill.

It is not for the first time when two car companies are coming together as previously Renault-Nissan Alliance, tried a similar strategy with models such as Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano SUVs.

For Toyota, the Baleno will be a competitive hatchback segment as Baleno has been a top car with an average monthly sales of 15,000 cars for Maruti Suzuki. Baleno was launched in 2015.

As part of the alliance, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has decided to invest more than $1 billion into Toyota plant in Bidadi, Karnataka.

Maruti Suzuki will get Toyota's Corolla to rebody and rebadge while Toyota will use Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Baleno for its own rebodied and rebadged versions.

The investment is aimed to boost the car manufacturing capacity of both the companies at the plant. Maruti Suzuki wants to maintain its dominance in the Indian market, thereby it is working to enhance its car making ability with Toyota.
