Maruti's new S-Cross made a star studded entry in the market, as it was revealed during the IIFA awards ceremony held in Malaysia.
Looking to power its forthcoming models with bigger engines, Maruti Suzuki India is planning to source a 1.6 litre diesel Fiat engine.
The company has started research and designing to make its own 1.5 litre diesel engine, which should come to the market by 2017.

The all new S-Cross is the first crossover car from Maruti and the looks seem to justify it. The newbie has twin-slat chrome grille, projector headlights with daytime running LEDs.
Maruti's S-Cross will likely to come with a 1.4-litre petrol variant and 2 diesel 1.6-litre and 1.3-litre diesel engines.
The 1.6-litre diesel engine will pump out 120 PS @ 3,750 rpm and a max torque of 320, the transmission is likely to come from a six-speed manual gearbox.
The 1.3-liter diesel MultiJet (from fiat) dubbed as DDiS200 (same as in the Ciaz), will power out 90 PS @ 4000 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque at 1750 rpm.
The petrol engine is the same as Maruti Ciaz, the 1.4-liter motor pumps out 95 PS at 6000 rpm and 130 Nm @ 4000 rpm of max torque.
The S-Cross is expected to be launched in India with a starting price of about Rs 6.5-7 lakh, going up to about 10 lakh for the top-end variants.
