Japanese carmaker Honda has announced that it has begun work on launching as many as six new models in the course of the next three years. The announcements were made on the sidelines of the Tokyo Motor Show 2017.

Honda plans to expand its portfolio in Indian during the course of next three years in order to strengthen its prospects in the market here. The Japanese carmaker is planning to shift its focus from mid-segment and introduce latest iterations of some of its premium offering into the Indian auto market.

While some of the upcoming models of Honda are all new cars, other launches will see current models getting a major makeover.

Here is a list of the 6 models that Honda plans to launch in India in the next three years:

1. Honda Civic facelift

The eighth generation Honda Civic was launched in India in 2006. The car saw some success initially but the lack of a diesel variant saw lack of enthusiasm and was finally discontinued owing to poor sales in 2013. Honda did not introduce the ninth generation Civic in Indian market, as the car did not fare well in the international markets. The Japanese automaker will now launch the tenth generation facelifted version of Civic in India. The car is expected to arrive India by 2019.

2. New CR-V

The fifth generation CR-V SUV will be launched in India by mid-2018 along with a diesel variant for the first time. The new CR-V will be offered in the seven-seater configuration in India.
Apart from the carryover i-VTEC 2.4-litre petrol motor, the diesel in the new CR-V will be the 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine. The petrol mill will be tuned to churn out 190hp while diesel engine will belt out 158hp. The latter is also expected to couple with an all-new ZF nine-speed automatic gearbox.

3. Honda HR-V
Honda HR-V is based on the same platform as the Honda Jazz and is powered by a 1.8-litre in-line 4 cylinder petrol engine that develops 142bhp and 172Nm of torque mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT transmission. The diesel option will be the 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit, which is already being used in most of the diesel cars of Honda in India. Honda HR-V will fill the gap between the BR-V and the CR-V.

4. Next Gen-Amaze
The Japanese carmaker will also launch the second generation of Amaze in India. As per reports the development of the second generation Honda Amaze is almost complete. It is expected to make its global debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, before seeing market launches in Thailand and India.

5. 10th Generation Accord

The tenth generation Honda Accord will be completely re-designed from the scratch and re-engineered.

According to Honda “With three advanced new powertrains, the tenth-generation Accord will be the most fun-to-drive, refined and fuel-efficient Accord yet”. The two new turbo-charged engines on the 2018 Honda Accord will be a 1.5-litre unit and a 2.0-litre unit. The 1.5-litre unit could be specified with either a regular CVT or a sporty 6-speed manual transmission. Also, the 2.0-litre unit will have an industry first 10-speed automatic gearbox along with a 6-speed manual transmission as an option. The third engine option on the new-gen Accord will be the one with Honda's two-motor hybrid technology.

6. New Gen City/ Hybrid City

Honda is working on the next-gen City sedan and it is expected to be the last model of the brand to be launched in India in this decade. Reports claim that Honda may also bring the hybrid version with the new-gen City. The new City will be powered by a 1.5-litre, in-line four-cylinder petrol engine that uses a hybrid system similar to the one seen on the Accord hybrid, which the company currently sells in India.
