Aam Aadmi Party's announcement regarding its nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections was met with surprise as the party announced two relatively unknown faces along with senior party leader Sanjay Singh, missing out on famous face Kumar Vishwas.
Regarding the oversight of Kumar Vishwas as a Rajya Sabha nominee, senior AAP leader and Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said that the decision was deliberate, because Kumar Vishwas becoming a Rajya Sabha representative would have been detrimental for the party.
"Can such a person be sent to the Rajya Sabha? Will he be the voice of the party in the Rajya Sabha," Rai said, adding that Kumar Vishwas would have use the Rajya Sabha seat as a platform to "finish off the party".
Rai claimed that the party had noticed a pattern in the statements made by Vishwas against the Aam Aadmi Party and that BJP legislators would hold meetings at his residence as well.
Apart from Sanjay Singh, the other two nominees for the Rajya Sabha are businessman Sushil Gupta and chartered accountant ND Gupta.
Kumar Vishwas has been accused of backstabbing the AAP leadership in the past as well, with AAP leaders alleging that the BJP has incentivised the poet politician Vishwas to move against Delhi Chief Minister, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal.
