Going tough on Pakistan, the United States has said that its ongoing Afghanistan policy review also incorporates India along with all the other countries in the South Asian region.

US State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert, in a press briefing, said, "We are looking at this as not just a solution to Afghanistan, but also a broader concern that incorporates India and Pakistan as well as a regional solution."

The US's stand comes as a crackdown on India's outlier neighbour Pakistan for their involvement in sheltering terrorism and providing safe haven to terrorist organisations.

The State Department Spokesperson also acknowledged that the US's Afghan policy review is an issue "a lot of people are very curious about".

Apart from the US President Donald Trump, several lawmakers and diplomats have also publically expressed their views that Pakistan needs to crack down on terrorism.

Just in July 2017, the United States House of Representatives had adopted a legislative amendment that made it harder for Pakistan to get defence funds. The defence secretary James Mattis had also said that the US's Afghanistan strategy review is "hard" as it would have to be "wrapped into a regional context" that involves Pakistan.

When questioned about the India-China border standoff in Doklam region, spokeswoman Nauert said, "...we have relationships with both governments. We continue to encourage both parties to sit down and have conversations about that."

Shee also added that the US has been closely following the dispute ever since it started.
