A federal Judge in the United States sentenced former US Naval Officer Adam Purinton to life imprisonment on Friday for the murder of Indian Engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla.

52 years old Purinton had killed Srinivas in a racially motivated hate crime at a bar in Olathe, Kansas last year. Apart from the first-degree murder of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, Purinton was charged with two counts of attempt to first-degree murder. He shot and wounded Kuchibhotla's friend and colleague Alok Madasani and a bystander Ian Grillot who chased him as he fled the bar.

As he shot Kuchibhotla, Purinton yelled, “Get out of my country.”

He pleaded guilty to the charges earlier in March and entered a plea agreement for a 78 years sentence. As per media reports, Purinton will not be granted parole for the next 48 years i.e till he turns 100 years of age.
