For the first time in the last 20 years, Pakistan has a Hindu cabinet minister, that is when the interim Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced his cabinet this week.

According to reports, 65-year-old Darshal Lal has reportedly appointed to head the coordination between the four provinces of Pakistan.

After being elected in 2013 on PML-N ticket under minority seats, this will be Lal’s second position in the National Assembly. He is a part of the current cabinet under the interim Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi after Nawaz Sharif was ousted by the Supreme Court for corruption as per the Panama papers.

According to some reports, Darshan Lal used to practice medicine in Ghotki district of Sindh.

On Friday, Pakistan's Interim Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi unveiled his Cabinet. President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath to 27 ministers and 16 ministers of state at a ceremony at the President's House in Islamabad.

Initially a 46-member Cabinet was finalised for oath- taking but some of the nominees skipped the ceremony, apparently due to differences with the government, sources in the ruling PML-N party said.

Some of the prominent names in the new cabinet are Khawaja Asif who has been appointed as the country's first foreign minister, Ahsan Iqbal, who will take charge of the key interior ministry and Ishaq Dar will continue as finance minister.

While the new Cabinet largely retained old faces, the Prime Minister has introduced some new leaders in the cabinet.
